Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs - "Household Goods"

I first saw TEED, otherwise known as Orlando Higginbottom at this years Great Escape festival in support of Fenech Soler.

"Garden" without doubt proves his ability to make extremely listenable, melodic electro pop music, whilst the "Blood Pressure" release featuring Riko exhibits a capacity for out and out bass filled dancehall bangers.






His new tune Household Goods takes a few plays but now I can't leave it alone.

Romy xx Deadboy Remix

To continue the with the theme of former xx members, news of Romy's collaborative track with New York based DJ/Production duo Creep "Days" has been floating around recently. I'm not sure how I feel about the original, but Deadboy's remix is nice.

Platform Boiler Room XXXV

Platform have been churning out a serious selection of strong line-ups at their weekly Boiler Room sessions, the series of which started earlier on in the year.

Takeovers from a diverse array of forward thinking camps including Hessle Audio, Standard Place, Young Turks, Butterz, Night Slugs and most recently Numbers produced some extremely entertaining and somewhat obscure sets.

Last weeks Numbers takeover saw Deadboy, Mosca, Godhand and Nelson step up, with an appearance from the man himself Jamie xx, who definitely hasn't let off the gas since this years success with his former ensemble.

The hype surrounding the impending release of the Gil Scott-Heron remix album is monumental; not to mention the confirmation that there will be a box-set! That's right kids, the album itself on pink vinyl, the instrumental on green vinyl, 2 CD's and 2 photographic prints. Shit, I'm a geek.

But anyway, the true test of any beatsmith's credibility these days still, in my eyes, comes down to what they can do on the buttons. Geekstep/Brostep, whatever you want to call it proved that, making tunes is great, but playing them out in confidence alongside loads of other good ones is something else.



I saw Jamie xx's set on the first night of Glastonbury and to be honest, from what I remember, it was dope. His Boiler Room session was something else though. Check it. Platform are really gay with their content now so click here for the mix.

XLR8R Podcast 175: Elijah & Skilliam

As an avid supporter of grime since its inception, my body tingles with excitement to see any form of recognised appreciation outside the realms of the unaccepted.

The electronica moguls across the pond at American-based zine XLR8R definitely fail to ever miss a trick; and this weeks podcast is hosted by the Butterz duo themselves, who seem to be doing no wrong at the moment.

With plenty more intelligent releases on the Butterz imprint in the pipeline, and BR001-004 on sale as we speak, the East London pair are also tearing apart dance floors all over the place; check their set from Rinse's 16th Birthday at Fabric.

As usual, their XLR8R podcast fails to disappoint, an eclectic blend of vocal-free bass heavyness, moving from aggressive 8 bar rallies to the gameboy-grime niche and beyond into outer space. Enjoy.
