Yesterday, my good friend was walking home along the Western Road in Brighton.
Perhaps not the most idyllic street on the south coast, it is home most significantly to Primark, low-grade fast food outlets, scary looking Western Union shops that transfer money to Moldova and sell stolen phones, and prostitutes. An avenue that oozes Jeremy Kyle.
A group of young white males dressed in sporting attire (ahem) were following closely behind when, loan behold, one of them decided to through a cigarette butt and my friends back. After a well broadcasted and somewhat heated exchange, the youths chose to wrap up proceedings by hurling a string of not very nice words and offering my friend down to the seafront for bit of hand to hand.
I have no desire to slate such people but as the UK plunges itself further into a state of disrepair, I feel sometimes like there is no hope.
Moreover, the light of at the end of the tunnel is becoming ever more deluded by fear mongering, xenophobic twats such as the writers of the Sun, Nick Griffin and Jeremy Clarkson. This seems to be a habit of English people in general. Even the government do it. Just shift the blame on to someone else.
Just because we colonised a few places back in the late 19th Century and mined a bit of coal now and again gives us no right to hurl abuse at the Polish guy on the bus for taking 'our' jobs.
Even more so, what right do we have to look down on black people for stabbing and shooting each other, when our children are walking around throwing the latter part of a B&H Silver at someone and turning the air blue?

If underprivileged communities of ethnic minorities are killing each other off, so are the fucking white ones, but just a lot more slowly. I'd take a bullet any day over a teenage pregnancy, a cigarette butt and a JSA slips worth of WKD.
If anything, our treasured representatives up at Westminster need to stop being so petty, fill out their expenses forms properly and admit that the land of hope and glory is going to shit. Cos it is. Unless we win the World Cup of course.
