Alexander Gronsky Photography

A close friend of mine has recently moved to Amsterdam to drink beer, smoke and study English and Drama at the University there for a term. He recently went to a photographer's exhibition that really grabbed me.

I have an innate interest in all things Soviet. For such a land mass containing so much diversity, history and adverse climate, there is something beautifully bleak about the film blanc nature of it's landscapes.

Here's a bit about Alexander Gronsky;

"Russia is always the main subject of Gronsky’s photographs. By photographing the vast empty landscapes he investigates the notion of psychogeography, the effects of the geographical environment on the emotions and behavior of individuals."

I particularly liked Gronsky's project entitled Less Than One, based on the following premise:

"Less than 1 person per square kilometer is an average population of Russia's outmost regions".
